This card features whale species found in the Pacific Northwest, off the coasts of British Columbia, Alaska and Washington. This bold black and white design was originally drawn with pen and ink. The outer shapes of the whales were drawn blindfolded and then completed without a blindfold by crosshatching to add volume and detail within the forms. Inspired by historical renderings and illustrations of whales, these drawings seem to morph between fact and fiction, animal and myth. The back of this card shows each of the whales on the cover with their common and Latin names.
